"Beyond The Field" by Hasson Cantarero Hernandez

The grass is wet from the sprinklers getting

the field ready for the game.

From the center of the field you can see both

goal nets ready to be defended by opposing teams.

The wind blows across a player's face.

It brings to the nose the sent of grass and

sweaty jerseys.

From the field you can hear fans chanting

And cars honking their horns as they pass by

You can hear the loud thump of the soccer ball

being kicked across the field.

You can see the cross bar vibrate after the ball

Violently smashes into it.

From the field players observe the love and

hate the fans give.

You can feel the nervousness, pressure, obligation

and the motivation to win.

Your body chills as soon as the first kick is taken.

And the fans roar in excitement because the game has

begun.

The body grows tired but the sense of love, desire, and

Motivation drives you to push harder.

The first, second, and third goal drop in the net and the

final whistle blows, the game is won.

Happiness, excitement, and accomplishment fills the

body, it’s a great feeling but you don’t know how to react

So you just smile and stare in awe.

As you leave the field, you receive chills and turn around

Instantly you re-live everything that just went down and smile.

Eyes fill up with joy and your mouth move to bring into

reality the words:

“This is my home”

"Covid Thoughts" by Anonymous

It’s interesting being a senior in high school during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a time of great uncertainty. Something no one can control. Sure, the President of the United States, the Governor of NY, and even local politicians have put in policies to help fight the spread of coronavirus, however, it’s inevitable. The Kansas Governor has suspended the school year for all high school students, does that mean NY could be announcing a similar directive in the near future? The prom and graduation we’ve been looking forward to for our entire educational careers. It’s not fair. As President of the Class of 2020, I feel powerless, I try to keep the class informed, but there is only so much I can tell them. Why? Because I don’t know, I don’t think anyone does. I do know that school administrators are not worried about prom or graduation, they’re worried about handing out chromebooks, setting up wifi hotspots, and feeding children that qualify for free or reduced lunch. I completely understa...

"Senior Year Comes to an End" by Anonymous

It’s hard to imagine that this was going to be our last year of high school. It’s hard to imagine that someone like me would miss going to school. It’s hard to imagine that just a few months ago, my plans were so different. It’s hard to imagine what life was like just a few weeks ago. It’s hard to imagine that in just a few weeks everything changed. Senior Year was going to be epic, a year of last rites, a year of future thoughts. Missing dances, proms, sports and friends is the new norm. Missing tryouts, job opportunities and final grades is the new idea. Missing things that you normally take for granted and turning it into hope. You hope the future turns out better than you expect. You hope that new beginnings are better than the last endings. You hope that people get stronger, smarter and braver than they were before. You hope you have the courage to see the good and not the bad. Families are stronger, and you learn to realize that they matter most. You form bonds with siblings, par...

"The Evolution of J" by Anonymous

Stemming from being most hated to most loved uttering nothing but pain and destruction by the          sound of her lips to speaking                            nothing other than            life into others Burning bridges and getting hurt, never fearing the consequences Always learning from your mistakes because that's the only way you knew how to grow Fighting to stay alive through all the trials and obstacles You almost gave up until your 3 reasons to live came to save your life I have been blessed to interact with a lot of great people  in my life but none can compare to you The presence you have in a room to command attention, your ability  to vibrate your lips at a speed where sound penetrates the air and people stop to listen, or the confidence you carr...
